technique Word or Phrase:Building Recording Survey
Definition:Archaeologists carry out building recording to find out about the history and date of a building and to discover the changes that have been made to it over time.

A building recording survey usually involves taking photographs and making detailed drawings of both the inside and outside of the building. Archaeologists have to measure the building and its features very carefully.
